What is Extreme Paint? How does it work? How much does it cost?
Please read the following Frequently asked questions prior to contacting us. Chances are, your questions will be answered here.
NOTE: We are a distributor of BASF Automotive Finishes in the Arizona Market. The vehicles shown here are painted with BASF Extreme color shifting material, or with the new BASF Carizzma line of custom automotive paint. Our site is strictly a showcase of some of these vehicles. If you are in Arizona, call us at 602-544-3343. From other locations, contact BASF at 1-800-825-3000.
"How much would it cost to have my vehicle painted with this product?"
We do not paint vehicles, we are only a distributor for these products. If shopping for a shop, do your homework and ask to see in person some previous jobs that their shop has done. Reputable shops have no problem with allowing perspective clients to ask questions and view previous work.
"How much paint does it take to paint my vehicle?"
The amount of paint depends on size of job and can vary. Typically, the Extreme works best over black, dark blue or red (Tahitian Sunset). With Extreme, three to four coats is required to achieve full effect. With Carizzma, it can be mixed with other Diamont bases or put on top of a metallic base in a traditional candy effect.
"How does the paint create the color shift effect?"
See the section about the product for details, but it has to do with the manner in which the light source if reflected back to the viewer.
"Are color samples available?"
Sample color cards are available for review or purchase at your local BASF distributor. To find a distributor near you, call BASF at 800-825-3000 and ask for the location of the nearest distributor. Remember, do not settle for others, only BASF makes Extreme and Carizzma!
"Is this paint hard to use?"
No, that is what makes it so fun. Creating special effect colors and truly unique paint jobs is no more difficult than spraying regular base coat. After all, this is basecoat technology, and is very easy to use.
"What about touching up these products?"
Touch ups can be made, and the same effect created just like you would do on any other base coat / clear coat repair. Like any other three stage products, allowing more room for blending is the key.
"What is my vehicle is apart, can I still paint it in pieces?"
Any time you paint a vehicle in pieces, you run the risk of mismatch between the panels. It is far better to paint the entire vehicle after assembling the sheet metal back in position. Due to inconsistencies in spray technique, metallic effect and coverage, you might have slight variances in panels. This is more of a problem on lighter metallic colors, and less of a problem on solid colors, although color differences in solid colors can also occur.
